Dear all,
It's only a few days until the APCAP2007 conference, and I would like to give you some information about how to get out of the new Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to the Sasa International House where you will be staying.
The new airport is a very modern one and it's very big. However, logistics inside should be really smooth. Inside the big hall where you will be collecting your luggage you will see a yellow sign advertising for a limo service by the AOT or Airport Organization of Thailand. This is reliable and you might want to take this service if you don't want to go by public taxi. I have not tried this limo service before, but the price should be around 800 to 1,000 baht for a trip to the Sasa House, whcih is right in the middle of Bangkok. It's around 37 Baht for a US dollar now so expect to pay around 20 to 25 US dollars for the limo. You can approach the yellow counter inside the arrival hall and they will take a very good care of you.
If you prefer not to go by limousine, you can also try the public taxi. These are located on the ground floor of the airport. Your arrival hall will be on the first floor, so once you have cleared custom you will go out of a big gate where you will find a lot of people waiting for their friends and families. You will also be approached by agents who want you to utilize their transportation services. You can try them, but I think the AOT limo is a better choice. Anyway, the public taxis will be waiting for you downstairs on the ground floor. Look for a long escalator that will take you down and once you are at the ground floor you will see a long line of public taxis waiting for you. Prices for public taxis are cheaper, around 300 to 500 baht (around 8 to 12 US dollars). Drivers can speak at least some English, so it's worth a try.
I have attached a graphic file containing directions in Thai to three places in Thai for the taxi or the limo driver. Please tell the driver that you will be going to the Sasa International House, and not the other places. Even though drivers can speak some English, they might prefer having an explicit direction in Thai.
This is all from me at the moment and I am certainly looking forward to all of you at the conference.
